Project Description.
This QLB was ordered in 1942 under the Bedford contract V4647. It was sold off from the Army in 1958 and at some point after this the rear body for storing all the kit & ammunition for the Bofors 40mm A.A gun was removed and replaced with a Mann Egerton hand crane. The truck would have been a popular choice for recovery work having the factory fitted winch in the chassis as well.
The truck was found in the UK by the Wheels of Liberation Collection who are based in Pennsylvania, USA, and who were looking for a QLB to add to their impressive collection of vehicles which commemorate the Polish forces during WW2
The Collection asked us to collect & fully restore the QLB and put it back to how it would have been originally.
The whole vehicle was stripped down, the cab was found to be in particularly bad shape and had lots of patches, filler and even duct tape holding it together, this was so bad that we ended up making a whole new cab sub frame and replaced all of the front panelling.
The rear body was accurately recreated from scratch.
All the mechanical parts were stripped, repaired or fully overhauled.
Finally the truck was finished in the ‘Mickey Mouse’ style camouflage as requested by the Collection and is now on display in the museum in Pennsylvania wearing the markings of a Polish Artillery regiment and is coupled up to their Bofors 40mm A.A gun.
